Each fall, a group of students (notoriously known as the Soil Vols) participate in the Southeastern Region Collegiate Soils Contest. The contest is held in a different locations throughout the region each fall, so soil judging is a great opportunity to see the different soils across the southeastern United States.

If the judging team finishes in the top five of the competition, the team qualifies for a trip to the National Collegiate Soils Contest in the spring.

Students attend the annual American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America conference each year. Students present projects, compete in the quiz bowl, and are informed of the latest technologies in earth science related fields.

This year the ASA Meeting will be held in Houston, Texas.
